Founded in 1989 as a non-profit association emerging from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, the IIK is now one of Germany’s leading providers of language training, academic preparation, and international professional development.
The institute offers a wide range of language courses for university applicants, professionals, and institutions worldwide – focusing mainly on German, but also including different languages.
A major focus lies on the training and qualification of teachers of German as a Foreign Language (DaF). The IIK provides hands-on teacher training programs, courses on German for professional contexts, and digital teaching competencies – including the use of Moodle, AI, and other digital tools in language instruction.
In addition, the IIK implements international education projects in cooperation with universities, companies, and EU programs. The institute holds an Erasmus accreditation and regularly participates in European innovation and mobility projects.
